Sure they had an article written about them on NYTimes.com but that doesn't mean shit to me. What sold me was on their Kickstarter page I read the following:
"After we open source our source code, we hope to also provide a paid turnkey hosted service in the vein of Wordpress.com to make it easy for people who want to use Diaspora, but don’t want to deal with the fuss of setting it up.* We will make it easy to export your data and configuration, so if you decide you want to graduate and host your seed yourself, you are free to do so at anytime."Sounds like a sure bet to me. Why? Well let me give you a few bullet points:
- Facebook has a major PR problem right now! - Link 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7
- Wordpress parent company Automattic is VERY successful
- Top 26 Site in the USA via Quancast: http://www.quantcast.com/wordpress.com
- Multiple acquisitions: http://www.crunchbase.com/company/automattic
- Wordpress.org software powers some of the worlds most visited blogs: http://wordpress.org/showcase/
- They [Diaspora] have already raised $39,000+ in just under a month (BTW none of these "backers" are stake holders)
- I am sure there are more but I am so excited to post this I can just add them later...
