The real reason why CBS bought CNET

This is how it went down:

Les Moonves: "I know how we can be #1 in news. First we must buy the domain www.news.com, is it still available?"

Marketing Director: "Um no, it [news.com] was acquired by CNET and directs to their Technology News website."

LM: "Hmmm, seems like we are in a pickle. How much will they sell it to us,...ball park?"

MD: "Well I think we would have to buy the entire company."

LS: "Let me talk to the board, maybe we can just write them a check for 500k, that should be enough right?"

MD: "Uh well according to Michael Arrington the company is worth just over $1 billion"

LM: [spits out coffee] "This coffee tastes like shit, ok um news.com for 1 billion? I am sure we can work something out. Got to get them before Murdoch does!"

MD: "I actually think the coffee is not bad today"

LM: "You're fired."

RIM Offers Fast Company 6 month Subscribtion...Thanks?

Dear RIM/Research in Motion/BlackBerry makers,

So I got this promotional email from you today about the FREE Fast Company Subscription. If you forgot take a look below (I added a red X and a little note, so don't be alarmed)

Thanks for the offer but I don't need yet another Magazine Subscription that will auto renew after the 6 months. Any who, I remember in January you put out a press release promising just some of the following:
  1. Document Downloading and Editing
  2. HTML and Rich Text Email Rendering
  3. Messaging 2.0 (MMS Support)
"These new BlackBerry platform enhancements are scheduled to be phased in to new software releases during the first half of 2008 and will be showcased at Lotusphere this week."
Ok great, so todays date is 05-09-08. Are you saying in less than a month we will get these updates? Or are you going to wait until users start jumping ship to Android/WinMo 6.1/iPhone 2.0?

Please let me and the community know, ok? Have a good weekend.

Thanks Guys,

Regards,

Justin Dorfman

Domain for Mother's Day

I was in my 1&1 control panel and found a funny advertisement. Now I am curious to know how many people would actually buy their mom a domain?

Can you imagine: "Hey mom, happy mothers day! I got you what you always wanted...a domain!"

Mom says "Oh really? What's that?"

Geek says in his head "Shit maybe I should have just got a fucking card after all..."

What is 1&1 thinking? Do they really want to deal with (provide customer service to) Mom's that still think that the internet requires AOL? What a nightmare!

Great Commercial

While browsing CrunchGear I found this commercial. I'm sorry but I think Samsung & Sprint nailed it. Mad Props.

Re: Does Ballmer Need To Go?

Read this article and vote. I am interested to see what others think about the future of Steve's Career.

For the record I think Steve is a great CEO. The numbers don't lie:

Net Profit Margin

Quarterly
(Mar '08)
Annual
(2007)
Annual
(TTM)

30.36% 27.51% 28.33%

TechCrunch: "OMG Twhirl hasn't crashed in over 24 hours..."

Yes Mr. Arrington I can attest to that, but Twitter crashed, kinda...
