How To: Set a Static IP address on a Lexmark E120n

So I have been racking my brain trying to figure how to turn off DHCP on the Lexmark E120n.

Problem:

The Print Server Web Admin Tool that Lexmark provides is cr@p. Every time you disable DHCP the IP address changes to something like: 169.1.1.xx and in order to log back in to the control panel you either have to assign yourself a 169.1.1.xx address or restore to the factory settings/defaults.

Solution

I would recommend you just reset your printer to factory settings by:

  1. Turn off the Printer
  2. Unplug the Ethernet and/or USB cable
  3. Lift the front cover as if you were changing the toner
  4. Hold down the two buttons
  5. Turn on the printer (keep those fingers on those buttons!)
  6. After about 15/20 seconds you will see the ! LED light on, wait 3 seconds and let go
  7. If that fails search Lexmark's knowledge base: http://support.lexmark.com/cgi-perl/knowledgebase.cgi

Now lets give that printer a STATIC IP!

  1. Click the Big Button (with an arrow) 2 times
  2. It will then print 2 sheets. Take a look at the second sheet that is titled: "Ethernet 10/100" Find the IP address it should be something like: 192.168.1.48
  3. Open a Command Prompt or Terminal
  4. Type the Following: telnet 192.168.1.48 9000 (assuming that is the printers current IP address)

  5. Main Menu - Choose (Selection: 1) + Enter/return
  6. IP Address Configuration - Choose (Selection: 6) + Enter/return
  7. Choose (Selection: X) + Enter/return
  8. Main Menu - Choose (Selection: 8) + Enter/return + Y + Enter/return
