Heads Up: '08 Tech Terms

If you are a hard core geek, then this post really doesn't apply to you. Quite honestly no one even reads this POS blog, so yeah.

In 2008 you will probably be hearing these terms quite often:

802.11n (AKA: Wireless N, going to replace Wireless B&G)

OpenSocial (Google is giving developers of social applications a single set of APIs to learn for their application to run on any OpenSocial-enabled website. A competitor of FBML)

Desktop Virtualization
(Parallels, VMware will be key players behind this new concept of running multiple Operating Systems side by side.)


Mobile/Mobile Computing (Referring to Web Enabled devices such as Phones and Tablets. Key players next year will be Apple, Palm, Blackberry/RIM, Microsoft Windows Mobile 6, Nokia, Google, Linux)

SAAS (Software as a Service, rather than traditional software licensing.)

DTV/Digital TV (In February 2009 the FCC will ban the use of the 700 MHZ band which allows people with antennas on their TV's get basic analog channels. From 10/08 - 2/09 expect TV sales to go through the roof, as well as ad campaigns to purchase digital cable or dish network)
